i was thinking of "there" (ie: are there input and output streams)

right, that's why i specifically mentioned DJ Murdock as the author if
you'd like a copy of the package to look at, i can make it available... it's
pretty nice and even has a workwround for a bug in borland's emsstream...
what i'm wanting to do is to have a stream or collection (what's the
difference?) that i can put stuff into via text-type methods and the inputs are
sorted into the sorted collection which is stored in a self-sizing stream...
this way, i can created sorted textual databases... the first project i have in
mind is basically a simple sorted list of random text strings... i already have
the routines to create the strings i want sorted... i just need to inject them
in any order and retrieve them in sorted order...
