In that case the seat is probably too low for you. If it is fitted 
correctly most of your weight will actually be on the pedals (where it can 
do some good) and you will not have that much weight on the seat. Turn the 
pedals upside down so there is a flat surface on the top and, seated on 
the bike with someone else holding it, try to put your heels on the 
pedals. Your lower leg should be totally straight when the pedal is at the 
bottom of the stroke. This way, when your toes are properly on the pedals, 
you will have the optimum knee bend. If your seat is really low you might 
have to raise it incremenatally so you can get used to it.
