That's what they did with the brand expansion; the Undisputed Champion 
(and the Women's Champion) defended in both brands.  After Brock 
defected to Smackdown from RAW, he "chose" not to defend on RAW any more 
as part of the Steph-Bisch fued.  Then Eric reactived the "World 
Championship" and the Undisputed Championship became known as the WWE 
Championship.
