It called a Terminal Adapter in short TA, because it's not translating
anything a modem is soo.. (Digital signals -> Analouge).

The limit on a digital phoneline is mutch more, if you use more frequences
(more than 4-5 KHz). Afaik does ISDN use a bit more, but on Frame Relay it
uses more AFAIR.
