Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber 1997 EDAM & ERD Program Schedule Announced
The USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, at the USC Wrigley Institute for
Environmental Studies on Catalina Island, offers two major programs each
year. The Emergency Diving Accident Management (EDAM) and Emergency
Response Diver (ERD) programs have been developed to provide divers, and
any other interested parties, with advanced training. Both programs run six
days (Sunday - Friday) and provide continuing education credits. Tuition
includes housing and meals at the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental
Studies.
The EDAM class is primarily a lecture class dealing with aspects of diving
accident prevention, recognition, assessment, and treatment of
decompression sickness and air embolism cases. The course dates for EDAM
are March 16-21 and July 13-18, 1996. Cost for EDAM is $600.
The ERD class is a hands-on class dealing with diver rescue (both boat and
beach), effective CPR, and first aid. ERD has a maximum class size of 16
and is scheduled for October 19-224, 1996. Cost for ERD is $600.
In addition to the EDAM and ERD class the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber runs
Hyperbaric Chamber Operations classes to train people interested in joining
the chamber's Volunteer Crew. Either EDAM or ERD fulfill the entry
requirements for the Chamber Operations Class.
