There are a lot more people in California who are from someplace else.
Hardly any natives. Ronald Reagan was from Illinois, made the radio
circuit before becoming a Hollywood actor, President of the Screen Actors
Guild and Governor of California before his stint as US President,
meanwhile maintaining a California residence, which made him as much a
Californian as any of us living there at the time.

BTW, I never heard him say that his home town in Illinois was someplace
that he'd consider a place he'd want to 'get out of there'...

BTW, there's an old poem about native Californians:

"The miners came in '49 "The whores in '51
"And when they got together, they made the Native Son"

It has several versions, all culmanating in the same conclusion.

"The miner came in '49, the whore in '51. They rolled upon the barroom
floor, then came the native son."
