Sadly, intelligent conversations/debates are usually short lived. The
agreement to live and let live is reached rather quickly and the
debate ends or an argument begins and escalates to extremes.

I agree with your stipulation. However, I fear that such a thing will
be difficult, if not impossible. In times of need or other situations,
humans will turn to a source that they feel comfortable with. Some
will go to extremes while others will moderate whatever they believe
in.
