So does the largest auto collection in the country and possibly the world
-- the Harold Le May collection right here in Tacoma, Washington. The Le
May collection has over 3000 automobiles in it. Harold Le May was the
founder and owner of Le May refuse and had collected cars and other
memorabilia for decades. When he passed away, his family took steps to
preserve the collection and build a museum so people could come see it.
Starting many years ago, at the end of August, he would open his property
up for the public to see the cars. He bought a local Catholic boys academy
and housed many of his cars there. He owned several acres of land and
parked many of the cars he hadn't had restored on that land. I'm a member
of the Le May Collection preservation society so I get frequent updates on
the progress of the museum. The city of Tacoma has set aside land near the
Tacoma Dome for the museum and the architect has submitted the plans and
the ground has been broken so soon America's Car Museum(R) will be open for
the world to visit.
