I remembered reading it somewhere, but couldn't remember where.
Did some research last night, found it again. It was mentioned in Ralph
Nader's book, "Unsafe At Any Speed."
So that tells me it most likely is an urban legend, or something Nader made
up.

There have been cases where pedestrians have been injured, some fatally by
projections off of cars.
But this is pretty rare.
Nowadays almost non-existent.
