subject: The Hummer is dying...

G'Morning Ross, and all....

-=> Quoting Ross Sauer to Peter Coggon <=-

PC> Hmmmm, seem to remember the GM ... "See the USA in your
Chevrolet"!
   >
RS> That was before my time, but I have sen videos of those Dinah Shore
 RS> ads. They were cute.

That I remember from that show and Pat Boone's ... How old are you?
If you remembered the GM ads... how can my "see the USA in your Chev"
be before your time? I remember my uncle and family tooling about
in their 59 Chevs .... my other cousin had a Rambler stationwagon
with Overdrive...

RS> Not to mention the horribly impractical and simply ugly body styles,
RS> way too much sheet metal going into gimmicks like those horrendous fins
 RS> on cars.

There were a lot of teens that liked the 63 Impala ... but yeah I
remember the fins...they all had them, and they all flew off the highway
in the winds or skidded in the winter...or flew into the ditches.

RS> I think the most blame here goes to Harley Earl.
RS> He ran GM like his own little kingdom, and they simply made lousy
 RS> cars.

Fashion sells cars, and made he was responding to what the customer
wanted. As for being lousy, well many might disagree if they
are chevy fans...etc...we all have names for the other manufacturer.

RS> There's a Youtube video of two GM cars being crash-tested by running
RS> them into each other at high speed, one a near brand-new one, the
 RS> other a 1950's GM car.
 RS> VERY big difference!

Yes... thicker metal in the 50s GM car. The newer cars have lighter
material and then technology and mmmm someone told me better mileage.

RS> The big "safety push" nowadays is stopping people from
texting while
 RS> driving.
RS> Face it, people are going to be stupid and continue doing that.

They passed laws here and there, and it still goes on. People
are people Ross.

RS> It is March, it's going to be better weather now.

I hope you get to cycle in peace! What happened to our
Hummer title? Oh well it is a dead item here too...More
Jeeps offroad in the bush then that useless thing.

My wife wants me to fix her shore bike, we carry on the boat
and also my other 3 bikes and give them away and buy a new
light weight one. My bikes are aged.... from the 1970s and
while still fixable, the technology in bikes is a lot better
and they are a lot lighter...My British made Raleigh is a tank.
hahahahaha

    Happy cycling there Ross ....
                                    Pete
