I tend to think that the GNU compiler, and the different distributions
it is available with, are a bit to difficult for most novices. IMO
most novices would be better off spending the money to get either
the MSVC learning edition or one of the Borland Turbo compilers.
( I'm sure IBM and Symantec have products that are comparable )
If you're willing to commit the hours needed to learn C++, the
money for one of those compilers is, by comparison, a minor issue.
( Of course, that's relative to how tightly ones cheeks are pressed
together (-: )
