Back in the 1920s (I think) an author named J D Beresford wanted to 
write a novel based on exactly that idea. By coincidence, he also 
decided to keep a journal of the writing process. The novel was never 
published, but the journal, eventually published as "Writing Aloud", is 
a legendary record of artistic failure.
