I am now and have always been a car nut. I've had just over a dozen. A good friend of mine has almost every car he ever owned still, the number is currently just under 20 vehicles -- 2 57 Chevs (1 Belair Sport Sedan 1 150), 3 Cameros (2 67 and 1 68), several Chevelles and El Caminos (64 and 65), a few other sundry vehicles here and there and then his Cadilac crossover and his wife's Chevy pickup top it off. I have always been a car nut since I can remember. When I was a toddler, I would sit in my peddle car to watch cartoons on TV. EH>> I have never owned a brand new vehicle. Several of my friends, being SH> car EH>> enthusiasts, own several cars from the 50s and 60s as well as newer EH>> cars, none of which are "junk" as Otto claims. SH> Cars from the 50 and 60s are classics now, some fetching big money. Late SH> 60s and early 70s MOPAR muscle are out of sight with Hemi Cudas and Road SH> Runners bringing in $100K or more. I was watching the Mecum auction SH> recently and a plain jane 70 Road Runner, OD green with bottle cap hub caps SH> and no frills interior, fetched a quarter million dollars. I bought my 55 in 1967 before I even had a license. I paid a grand total of $200 for it. The same car in the same condition today would bring in $5K to $6. Every year, I watch the Barret Jackson auction on Speed TV and marvel at how a car my father bought in 1969 - a Chevelle SS 396 - for $2700 now brings bids rapidly nearing $100K. BTW, I drove that Chevelle SS to get my license. I drove my dad's 1971 Camero Z28 on senior day in high school. Surprisingly, no one wanted to race me that day. SH>> This summer, I will drop a bucket of money getting hail damage fixed SH> from SH>> two years ago. To lessen the bill, I have bought a hood and trunk SH> deck from SH>> a parts car (damn the luck, the parts car was a different color). EH>> Don't you hate when that happens? SH> Get this. That price includes some SH> trim damaged in the hail storm. "This summer" has been moved up to "this SH> week" in case the place goes out of business before I can get there. Not a bad deal at all.
