Same place I went probably: on the Usenet. Now that
personal Internet service is getting so cheap (mine is $8.50/month
for unlimited service), I am afraid that BBS's are suffering an exodus
of users to ISP's, with the result that FidoNet's scuba echo is
seeing a dramatic fall-off in user participation. Rec.Scuba gets
between 100 and 300 new messages every day, so many in fact that
I had to drop out after a while. The sheer volume of message traffic
was too time-consuming. I am hoping that rec.scuba will split up
into different sub-groups for US/Canada, Europe, Australia, etc.
so users can filter out regional traffic from other countries
if they want. Still, it is a shame that FidoNet may atrophy
and die, but perhaps that is one of the consequences of progress.
