Howdy John..........can't really suggest any books off hand but you might
just want to check out your local BBS for help files regarding the internet.
Here's some of the ones I offer my callers:
BGI20.ZIP "The Beginner's Guide to the Internet" is a +full-color,
computer-based tutorial about +the Internet. It covers E-mail, ftp, telnet,

IRC and more. +It is the only computer-based tutorial t

WHIZBANG.ZIP How to " InterNet " using email facilities only
ZNINTRNT.ZIP Zen and the Art of the Internet text file
You might also want to just consider grabbing the bull by the horns and
signing up for access to the net through a local ISP (Internet Service
Provider)..........once a person has actual access to the net, all this
information can be had by by either doing searchs for need information and/or
experimentation (also known as playing.......grin). Your ISP should be able
to provide you with all the needed software and access information you need
to get going.......if they don't go and check out another ISP. (If in fact
you do actually need extra software to get started, this depends on which
operating system you are using, what release version it is and age of
computer you're running. Eg: A Win95 system for instance, already has the
basic tools installed for internet access and all the ISP has to do is
provide you with some pertinent bits of information to type into the software
configuration.)

JC> how to use it. thanks john
One use of telenet is to allow access to a BBS system which has access to the
internet; eg: By logging onto your ISP, you could then initiate a telenet
session (either via the ISP's terminal server or via your own telenet
software program/SLIP or /PPP ) which would allow you to log onto a BBS
system that is also on the internet and use it's menus just as if you had
logged onto it as you would when logging onto your local BBS system.
JC> ... Who Killed Superman?
Darned if I know but you could probably find out on the net!
