Hi Garth,
I haven't said much about speakers for computers, but frankly most of
the ones they sell for computers are expensive and sound like crap. The
biggest advantage of them is that they can usually slide up alongside of
the monitor on either side and not cause too much problems with
scrambing the monitor's image. (If you've never put a magnet near your
TV, I don't advize doing it, but you do get some really nice psychedelic
looking patterns for your entertainment). If you do this, please have
degaussing capabilities on your set or a TV techinician handy.
That's why most people don't use regular home stereo speakers for
computers, but even in the begining of audio with computers I've been
using speakers that I like the sound of with my computers.. If you have
to listen to it, it better sound good, else why bother?
I've gotten really spoiled on my digital audio workstation computer with
the studio monitoring system it has available. I'd almost opt for a good
set of headphones with a micropone boom for future computing where voice
recognition is going to be needed. (Special note to Matt Ion and the
other TeamOS2 folks, I know it's here now in OS/2 Warp 4). In the $100
range, you can get good headphones, but rather lousy speakers. Imagine
how good the speakers are if you can get them, the sound card, a
microphone, and a pile of software for $50 at Sl-Eazy Computers?
