Sounds like I'll have to look for some Nevil Shute next time I add to my
to-read shelf. I'd heard the name in connection with On The Beach, but
never read any. Are any of the stories mysteries?
Speaking of romance without sex, have you ever read any Patricia
Wentworth?  Many of the early, pre-Miss Silver mysteries were real
romantic action stories in the classic tradition.
