subject: Lanius y2k position

I think this sums up our Y2K position nicely. I believe that my comments
about y2k in MUFFIN are correct, but if they contradict Gary's rules in the
MUFFIN FAQ, then his rules supersede what I have written here.

Does it? Please be more specific. We are unaware of any major y2k
problems in Maximus.

Why do the discussion topics in MUFFIN imply anything about what Lanius
will or will not be doing? The two are not necessarily related.
In fact, I do not believe that y2k BUGS are off-topic. If there is a
specific problem in Max's y2k support, I certainly want to know about it
(as do the rest of the sysops). If you want to drone on and on about how
Maximus will die in the year 2000 but do not substantiate your claims, and
thereby antagonize everyone in the conference (while still not helping
with the problem), you will probably be asked to leave.
In fact, I have publicly stated that we will fix any y2k problems in both
Maximus and Squish. As soon as people tell us about problems, we will fix
them or indicate a usable workaround.
To date, no one has come forward with a legitimate problem that we were
unable to resolve. We have already posted a good workaround for entering
y2k dates right now (01/03/103 = Jan. 3, 2003).
I have heard that there may be some problems with the QWK mail handling
procedures when the year does hit 2000, but we have not tracked this one
down, and in any event, this will certainly not be an issue for about two
years.
We will release a proper fix for all of these, probably later this year,
once we are convinced that we have covered most of the other problems, if
any, in the same release.
Does that make our position clearer?
