I have an old Soyo motherboard which to the best of my knowledge doesn't support anyother voltages than 5volt. I would like to have a "faster" computer but am on a very "shoe string" budget. Going from a dx/33 to a dx2/66, by today's standards doesn't seem like much of a step. So I thought I'd go the whole way to the dx4/100. Either AMD or Intel. But the Intel 4/100 looks to be something like $120 to $180 or so. While the AMD is about $95 or less but as you say, I'd have to also have a voltage regulator, which puts the price up again. As I believe you're "in the business", what would your suggestion be as to the cheapest way to speed up my computer.
