Norfolk and Western's 611 was a coal burner when my Dad and I rode her
on a Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum fall foliage excursion. But, I
don't think anyone is running steam excursions anymore, because of the
liability. Union Pacific was going to run the 844 with trips this fall,
but cancelled them due to all the heavy traffic along the system. I've
ridden behind the Cotton Belt 819, the N&W 611 noted above, the UP 844,
and 3985...and that's all I can think of right now. Not sure which is
the best part of these giants...but the mournful whistle stands out. :)
