It's text that I also interpret as separation of church and state.  What part
of, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." implies anything otherwise?

That's because it's true, Ross C., even if you disagree with it.

Because it's still true.  Until people stop pandering to the religious right
and attempting to instill religious views/morals/etc. in our laws, it's going
to continue to be true.  But, you don't see it as a threat to you.  That's
fine, because there are many others that do.  Hopefully the trend is reversed
before it ever touches anything about which you're concerned.

Not so much, because most Democrat politicians aren't as beholden to the
religious right.  But, they do still pander to them, such as Democrats who will
not support equal rights for homosexual couples, abortion rights, etc.
