Thing is, the Right Wing was only using the Fundamentalists.

Note how nothing substantial was accomplished against abortion when Bush 
was in office, with Rep control of Congress, and a packed Supreme Court.

Shit, they coulda nearly gutted R v.W. 
But, NO...tax cuts for the rich is more important.
And more tax cuts.
