You couldn't be more wrong, Ross.  Notice also in the main body 
of the Constitution that there should be "no religious tests for 
political office".  

The First Amendment is written to insure that that clause is 
clear.  It is there to protect the religious rights of those that 
are not part of the religious majority group.  The Amendment assures 
that future laws will not be written to give members of any 
particular sect more rights than any other group or individual.
