> That's what I stated im my original message. The 100 day deal was > an incentive for for Southern States to re-enter the Union and not > lose their slaves. The Proclamation had the added effect of > framing the conflict as a war against slavery for the British. It > was shortly after it was penned that Britain withdrew its support > for the Confederacy. It was never over British Support... Britain had no interest in our war... there was a battle between several Union Ironclads and the CSS Kersage off the coast of Britain. The CSS Kersage was obliverated... and britain took no sides. Britain traded openly with both the Union and the Confederacy. What they were primarily worried with was the border states that supported the union and still had slaves. If they were to lose -those- states to the Confederacy the war would have been lost. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Derby City BBS -= Allen Prunty =- telnet://derbycitybbs.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Where Friends Gather --- SBBSecho 2.12-Win32* Origin: Derby City BBS - Louisville, KY - derbycitybbs.com (1:2320/100) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/250 300 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1417 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 690/734 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 SEEN-BY: 2222/700 2320/100 2905/0 @PATH: 2320/100 261/38 633/260 267 |
