subject: Big stink in Green Bay

RS> The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Madison-based group that
RS> advocates for the separation of church and state, and 12 Green Bay
RS> residents moved to file a lawsuit Monday challenging the display on the
RS> roof of a City Hall entrance.

A group headed by a Christian, BTW (I think). ;)

Nah, that's...something something for the Separation of Church and State,
or something like that.

Separation is a good thing though. A VERY good thing.
And iff'in you let'tem into your City Halls, science classrooms are on the
short list to follow.

And where is the Flying Spegetti Monster?
Refused admittance, that's where!

Government "establishes religion" all the time.
For they rotely determine what religions are "real" or not.
In cases like this, and in every case of request for tax exemption based
upon religion. Thus, THAT is unconstitutional as well. IMO, of course.

RS> The lawsuit claims the display depicting the birth of Jesus is an
RS> unconstitutional governmental endorsement of religion. It claims City
RS> Council President Chad Fradette and Mayor Jim Schmitt allowed the
RS> display to provoke and marginalize those who would object.

The complainants are RIGHT!

Such a display on GOVERNMENT PROPERTY is an affront to non-Christians!
Especially non-Christians that paid taxes for that property.

You just don't care that they are pissing on your legs while picking your pocket. ;)

What, there aren't enough churches around?
(that DON'T pay their fair share of taxes, BTW)
They have to shove Christianity in my nose at city hall too?

RS> I say let it go.
RS> I'm an atheist, and I don't see why they need to make a stink out of it.

It's a slippery slope!

Although I'd have no problems with a Satanic Mass on the Capitol steps
(w/nude female "alter", and all) if you don't mind. ;)

RS> Private money paid for it, so no taxpayer money is going into it. There
RS> are *FAR* more important religous issues that need to be addressed, most
RS> notably how under El Stupido's command of the Pentagon, "Christian"
RS> bigots and militant evangelists have made too many inroads into the US
 RS> military.

Well you're right there!
The Pentagon has become a "faith-based initiative", what with how
entrenched fundamentalism has become in today's military.
