I don't know about "best" way, but I do it this way: Each machine defines a 
task number (-n is passed in the MAX call)
To prevent users using a particular node:

First line of logo.mec:
[iftask]1 [display]p:\max\misc\logopriv
And logopriv.mec contains whatever I want it to say, which is usually a check 
against a key and a hangup with a message if the user doesn't have that key.
