One of my thoughts on that was that if you have one guy talking about a
BBS to another fellow that's never heard of one, and wants to try it, so he
does a search
on Google, winds up telnetting to a synchronet board for instance. The
SBBS site has a synchronet BBS list, and sbbs has a synchronet list, which
can only be run on an SBBS, and the logoff screen by default shows the url
for the sbbs list. Okay, sbbs is a fine bbs package, and some people think
wwiv is the greatest, others think wildcat is the greatest, mystic is the
greatest, renegade is the greatest, etc, etc. It goes again to show how
it's a matter of personal preference, and what works for one person
doesn't work for another, and what one person likes another doesn't. The
person mentioned above who's new to BBS'ing doesn't really have an idea
that there are different boards with different interfaces. For instance,
they sbbs message system to me is not as good as Wildcat. And I'm sure
there are people who prefer the sbbs message system *over* wilcat. Point
being, this new person has only been exposed to SBBS and awareness that
SBBS isn't the *only* bbs software running. If they dial into SBBS and
find that's it not that user-friendly, they decide that they tried
"BBS'ing" but didn't like it. Well, again, I'm speculating. :) Then I ask
myself, why do I even care? Will I be BBS'ing a year enough to matter to
me? I don't know. This is just what I'm writing *now.* You obviously
wanted to discuss it with me, so I'm discussing it. :) I'm not a sysop,
nor do I plan to be, so do my opinions even matter? :)
