Under Windows, I had to put between.bat into any directory in the PATH. It 
wasn't running at all when it was just in IREX's home directory.

OK, thanks. I managed to work around it and now I'm kind of leery of
messing with my set up. One day when I feel more intrepid I'll play around
with it again.
