Interesting. I wonder then, why Jesus would say (among other things)
"I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh to the Father
but by me." (John 14:6)

That implies more than a pointer or sign post to the Father; but the
path itself.

Oh? According to Deuteronomy 32: 48-52, God told Moses to ascend Mount 
Nebo & view the land of Canaan, but because of trespass against God,
he would not enter the land. And why would Christianity not focus on
Jesus, given that He is the one mediator between God and man? Error
has cetainly entered Christianity, though, with people focussing on
Mary or praying -to- various saints etc etc.
