In the US and Canada (and any other countries that subscribed to the Berne 
Copyright Convention), your work is copyrighted as soon as you write it.  
Placing a "Copyright xxx" notice on the program could make lawsuits a bit 
easier (should you ever have to sue anyone), but even that isn't required.
