Actually, as of a couple of weeks ago, most series still had at
least six episodes in the can. If you're looking ahead  in the
listings and seeing reruns, it's probably the usual "let's go
to reruns after November sweeps" situation. Then we get into
December holiday specials and sports preemptions, too. So
although the series will start running out of new shows pretty
soon, it's not likely to be as soon as you think (depending on
which shows you're watching).
