Hi Jeannelou,
JT> YEs, for the leather, the sewing machine behaved fairly well.
JT> For some reason, it usually does. I get my leather jackets to
Must be the machine's temperament is suited for leather; at the price
you get the machines for, it says "leather is fine, everything else,
phoey!"
JT> recycle at yard sales. The top price i will pay is $5 and that has
JT> to be something pretty special. Even at that price, i get maybe four
JT> pouches and some 'scrapy' projects from it. The pouches sell
Hmmm, haven't noticed any leather jackets at yard sales around here. I
got some pieces of scrap years ago and made a purse (bag); would like to
see what I could do now that I've more experience. First one was when I
was in early years of college as I recall.
JT> machine about every 20 pouches, a dollar for the special thread and
JT> needle, and another dollar for the thong. Parsed out, it costs $9.50
JT> in materials to make at least $28, worth of pouches, plus anything
So it sounds like you do pretty good, if they sell.
JT> some other lucrative things. I haven't sold any of the beverage
JT> carriers yet, so i don't know what the traffic will bear on them.
Don't see why they wouldn't; I should think that real die hard SCAers
would want to use something like that to avoid apperances of the mundane
world.
JT> I too have several of the multiple hole punches, but the BC bottoms
JT> are on a curve that make punching them , a real nuisance.
What about a handle with several punches in a row (imagine a garden
rake)?
JT> Sara, my injured friend, spent the evening with me last night
JT> [while our husbands went to a meeting]. She is doing very well . She
JT> can
JT> already hold things in her injured hand. She plans to start a small
JT> Ribbon EMB kit today. She cannot, of course support any considerable
JT> weight or lift it above her bust. Thanks for your thoughtful
Bit by bit, she will gain strength in that hand to a certain extent only
she and her body will determine. Meanwhile, keep encouraging her to
work with it but not overwork it; the ribbon embroidery sounds like it
would be a good start. Having had both hands basically out of
commission, I can sympathise; I do appreciate the limited use they do
have now.
Catch you later,
Ruth
