They were remastered and some of the external CGI shots and
special effects were redone. We sat The Menagerie at a local
cinema recently. It was put on by some promotional company.
Some folks were conducting a spontaneous ST trivia contest
when we arrived.

The extra detail does make a difference. The facial wrinkles on
Jeffery Hunter are better at showing his emotions during the
story than ever made it on screen on the older low resolution
formats.

Ob - I recorded the original The Gathering live on VHS the
evening it was first broadcast. For years I've known the tape
was somewhere in a big stack of boxes. I finally went through
enough boxes to find the exact tape it's on. Two assorted ST
episodes are before it on the tape and two more after it, so I
recorded it in SLP mode. I fast forwarded and rewound it several
times to retention and this morning I set the Tivo on a trial dub
of the first 4 hours of the tape. Tonight I'll know how much
drop-out, how good the sound is and so on. In the next couple
of days I'll record it at Tivo's High resolution that fits 2 hours on
a single DVD. Wow-hoo - Comparing the original sound track
with the remastered one in the DVD release to see what Kosh
said the first time around ...
