Really, sharks eat fish and not flesh - If they think you are food,
then they will "taste" you and usually let you go when they realize
you are not a fish (You loose an arm or leg in the process) this doesn't
apply to the great white (he eats anything , tires, cans, you, ect)- The
Bulls are Deep water and don't cross too much with divers. I did about
15 years of diveing over here and never got bit or attacked by a shark,
'cept for the one I tried to catch (he was small, about 2 foot) scared
the hell out of me when he turned on me. Only time I ever seen sharks is
when I'd take a clown out with me and he started shooting everything.
Blood puts them in a frenzy. I also know that to a shark, some smuck
splashing around on the surface, ment a dieing fish and an easy
meal(Sharks are lazy and look for easy catches)- So, I learned to
snorkle and free dive, without Splashing and flopp'n around on the
surface.
I collected tropicals so sharks found me boring I guess. Every time
someone here had an encounter with a shark while diveing, I asked them
"So what where you doing?" they's answer "Oh I was Spearfishing" or
"Lobster hunting" (Sharks like lobsters too... I know a boat-sized
(small boat) hammer head, lives right off the NW coast here, will rip
you lobster sack right out of under you!) - So , wanna see sharks that
bite? drag bloody fish around in the water, and you'll see them! I got
to where I didn't want nobody with me who carried a "hunting" weapon.
No spearguns, no sharks. Fish aren't as stupid as you think either,
after they get shot at a few times, they learn to stay away from divers
with spearguns. You go in with a speargun, and nobodys home... Go in
with out one, and they're all over the place.
My biggest enemy where little speckled viper-eels- i got chased by
those a few times, I guess they thought I was "invading " their
territory. I also got bit by one too. Stuck my hand in a hole, to scare
out some tropicals, and it was like getting cut with two razor-blades,
right thru the glove and all. After that, I went out and bought a pair
of good, leather, Welders's gloves, all the way up to my elbow.
