White Sox Inch Toward Historic Collapse (AP)
AP - The Chicago White Sox are creeping closer to completing the biggest
collapse in major league history. Travis Hafner hit his sixth home run
in five games and Coco Crisp added a two-run drive that led the
Cleveland Indians over the Kansas City Royals 11-6 on Thursday night,
moving the Indians within 1 1/2 games of the first-place White Sox in
the AL Central.
Willis Wins Major-League Best 22nd Game (AP)
AP - Dontrelle Willis is first in the major leagues and seventh in the
batting order. Florida's left-hander became the majors' first 22-game
winner with a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets on Thursday night, a
game in which he batted seventh and kept the Marlins' wild-card hopes
alive.
International Team Leads Presidents Cup (AP)
AP - The International team was in foreign territory Thursday at the
Presidents Cup. It was in the lead. Retief Goosen and Adam Scott turned
in a tag-team performance that buried Tiger Woods and Fred Couples in
the opening match. Bringing up the rear were Mike Weir and Trevor
Immelman, who birdied four of their first five holes in alternate shot
for a dominant victory over David Toms and Stewart Cink. When the first
day of matches ended, the International team had a 3 1/2-2 1/2 lead.
Palmeiro's Season With Orioles May Be Over (AP)
AP - Rafael Palmeiro said a vitamin he received from Miguel Tejada might
have caused the positive test for steroid use that led to the first
baseman's suspension, an assertion his Baltimore Orioles teammate
dismissed as implausible.
Boxer Dies From Injuries Sustained in Bout (AP)
AP - Boxer Leavander Johnson, critically injured in the biggest fight of
his life, died Thursday at a hospital where he was rushed with bleeding
on the brain.
William Shows His Worth With the Broncos (AP)

contract with the Miami Heat on Thursday, re-uniting him with center

Twins Beat Fading ChiSox 4-1 in 11 Innings (AP)
AP - Matthew LeCroy hit a go-ahead RBI single in a three-run 11th inning
and the Minnesota Twins sent first-place Chicago to another crushing
defeat, beating the fading White Sox 4-1 on Thursday night.
Deadmarsh Retires Because of Concussions (AP)
AP - Adam Deadmarsh retired from the NHL on Thursday because of
post-concussion syndrome, ending a 10-year career that included a
Stanley Cup title with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and two
appearances for the U.S. Olympic team.
UNC-Pembroke Restarting Football Program (AP)
AP - The field where North Carolina-Pembroke's football team last played
five decades ago is gone, overlaid by progress at a growing school

the Texas Open.
