I'm concerned it will mess up other network functions like backup over a
gigE network. This way each of you is free to experiment by turning it on
or off on your machines without affecting everyone and everything else.

I'm not saying I'm not willing to try it sometime, it's just that it seems
unlikely to me that this is a problem affecting all windows servers on the
internet. I think it more likely that it's not window size but something
else that is triggering the incompatibility.
