Carol - I should have been more explicit about the fish "fertilizer",  the 
"fertilizer" you need most of all is carbon dioxide.  Just siphoning the 
"Fish poop" from you goldfish tank will not do the job.

FWIW - I am the local Horticulture committee chair for the Southern Colorado 
Aquarium Society so I like to think that at least the people who know me 
think I know something about plants.
