     You actually have two questions in there.
     Comets can live for several years if cared for properly.
     
     Feeder fish (usually comets) are fish that are sickly, or
     shipped en masse with litte care. They are not expected to
     live more than 2 weeks. A pet store owner told me this; I
     don't know if this goes for all pet stores but her predictions
     were accurate, even though I have bought other feeder fish
     from other stores. It always seems like such a great bargain.
     But, I have not yet managed to keep even one feeder
     fish beyond about 4 weeks at the most.
