KW>theres *A* problem... a clean boot from a clean bootable disk
KW>shouldn't be running anything from the hard drive whatsoever, only
KW>that which is on the floppy...
Absolutely; that's how I always set up my boot floppies.
KW>now, as there isn't a whole lot required for a plain clean boot there is
KW>no need to have a config.sys or autoexec.bat file at all..
In further testing, a floppy boot without AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS
files does run Scan properly. Live (and test and re-test) and learn.
KW>in fact autoexec.bat files can be a bad thing to have on a clean boot
KW>disk, the path statement within them may allow for path companion

Valid point -- thanks.
KW>quite possibly theres a bug in the program... mcafee is notorious for
KW>bugs...
Apparently, not this version.
KW> BW> I also re-read the manual, which is a .PDF file (Acrobat reader
KW> BW> format; the one I have is datestamped 03/15/96, viz VSCANDOC.ZIP;
KW> BW> circa 399290 bytes), but I found nothing which might help.

KW>really? i found something which might help... it's called "the date"...
KW>2.5.3 came out much later than march of 96...
Are you aware of a more recent version of Scan's manual?
