BA> Replying to a message of BOB KLAHN to ALLEN PRUNTY:
BK>> I spent quite a bit of time on the flight line, but made a point of
BK>> staying away from the ones with the engines running.
BA> At NKP I was one of the backend aircrew in the EC-47
BA> program. I made it a *point* to never walk under the wing
BA> front to back (or vice versa) - I figured that if I *never*
BA> did it I wouldn't forget and do it when an engine was
BA> running, so always the long way around the wingtip.
That makes a great deal of sense.
BA> The engine maintenance people were a bit more casual, I
BA> watched one of them wheel a stand between the prop and the
BA> wing of an EC-47 while the engine was idling, the top of
BA> the stand was less than a foot from the prop. Then he
BA> climbed up the stand, opened a panel on the cowl and
BA> started fiddling with something inside, while the engine
BA> was still idling (one of his colleagues was sitting in the
BA> cockpit, leaning out the window and watching him).
It is quite possible that they had to make adjustments while the
engine was running. That does happen.
