-> The Gulf of Mexico, out from the Tampa Bay area is home grounds. If
-> you check a map thats about half way down Florida on the west coast.
-> Major cities would be Clearwater, Tampa, and ST. Petersburg.
-
I know that area (sort of) I have been to Tampa once before for a
vacation. and geography is one of my intrests so I know exactly the area
you are refering to. How are the currents in the Gulf? Do you do
mostly shore dives there or boat dives?
-
-> There is a great effort for artificial reef building going on by our
-> local county gov't. While there are some nice natural reefs and there
-> are some wrecks in 80-130 feet.
-
Sounds (looks) like a interesting area to dive in. Are the artificial
reefs working out?
A lot of dive sites here are wrecks but there are all kinds up here,
boats, planes, and I hear there is a lake were a Train went though the
ice when they attemted to run tracks across it. There are also a lot of
interesting rock formations to check out like walls over hangs and
caves. Although it requires special trainging to go under the over
hangs and in the caves they can still be enjoyed with out going under
or in them.
-
-> I think the east coast (West Palm Beach, Ft Lauderdale) has better
-> diving and the boat trips are much less time consuming.
-> While of course the best diving was in The Cayman Islands.
-
Well if I am ever planning a trip down there I will be sure to consult
you on prime locations. I here many divers talk of the Cayman Islands
and the great diving there.
I will probably be doing most of my dives here in Ontario, as there are
many great places to go. If I ever have enough money I will have to
venture out to experice ocean diving.
Type to you later
