ick is an organism... a critter... a parasite... ick cannot be caused by the 
water temperature... however, the fish can be affected and this can cause 
them to not generate their slime coat. without their slime coat, they are 
vunerable to attack from critters... the white dots we see when we see ick 
are a hard coating similar to armour... it is also like a catepillar's cocoon 
because the ick are changing... after about 5 days, they will hatch and a 
whole new batch of ick organisms will fall to the bottom of the aquarium to 
start the cycle all over again... ick are microscopic parasites...
