Isn't that so simple. No problems and life goes on... PC> Try a BullDog... now there is low everything...until you need him. > CH> Yeah and in some cases, at your throat. In some cases? The only cases are those idiots who mess with the breed. CH> Nod. :) They do. A lot of people who run with their dogs don't CH> realize the dog does need to stop. And not just to check things out CH> but to catch his breath because dogs do not sweat as we do. CH> They only sweat through their mouth/nose/pads of feet. Yes ... we always stop. It is done whether or not we both need to. CH> When a pack is in migration (quickly moving/hunting) nobody stops CH> to sniff and explore. On the way back after they've eaten they do CH> that. CH> Must have been a very gooood dog too. :) I do think that some people CH> get carried away about dogs being around babies but you know it is CH> scary when you read about a rotie who stole a newborn out of the CH> grandparents arms. :( Shook it like a rag doll. I have read about them too. I then ask the history of the dog, and then the bloodline. Of course some dogs are not the right type for this job. CH> I remember when we introed our first dog our newborn daughter. We had CH> not read nay books on this. We just did what was well instinct. YOu CH> sit down. The dog is sitting a few feet away. calm. YOu then invite CH> the dog to come to the baby. The dog sniffs and is t told to sit CH> down... YOu let the dog know that the baby is part of you, the baby is CH> a pack leader too. When newborns in our family were introduced to the dog, it was usually one on one. Of course that was our family then, and we knew our dog's bloodline and history, and breeder. Nowadays we've had family members with babys storm out of the house, because baby got a kiss from Rusty. Good Grief...they know the dog is here, yet make it a point of whatever to leave. Good excuse. Thats society for you...and how they breed dogs today. CH> Most dogs I have known are very protective of children. They're like CH> nannies... :) But there's alway some who are not. Who are aggressive CH> domineering and regard the baby as an intruder. A weak one. And as CH> prey. CH> ........ Yes .. and I have been knocked down by them all too on the farm as a child. I always knew I was an intruder, and I always dealt with the dog before the family on my visits. Prey? Before yes...afterwards no. CH> What's your opine on what is called ESP (website by this name) re CH> early sterilization. After reading about it and asking a few friends CH> it does seem to be better for the dog as well as conveinent for us. CH> Especially with the females. I think with the terrible mixed breeding, and problems with bloodlines that both male and female should be sterilized. I am fedup with seeing pups un-wanted and then destroyed. When it comes to the time for it to be carried out. There are ideas on this which since I am not a breeder I can not have an opinion on, as I am not in this position of having it done, as Rusty was done in the Society hospital at the time he was there as a pup after being rescued. On the farm they used to allow a female her first litter then have the procedure done. If this has changed, I have no idea. My one female dog, a beagle ...well I rescued her from her being hit by a streetcar, and NO ONE claimed her.
