I see below the FireFox directories on my Fedora Linux box with Gnome
desktop. If I log in as root and start up FireFox from the command line
then under Help I get the option "Check for updates...". But it
does not find any updates.
Okay, I want to upgrade to FireFox 2.0. If I go do download FireFox 2.0 for
Linux it asks whether to "Open with Archive Manager (default)" or
"Save to Disk".
Which should I choose and why?
Suppose I download the file firefox-2.0.tar.gz. How to install it? Just
unzip in /usr/lib?
How to update the system so that Gnome will now point to FireFox 2.0 and so
that at the command line typing firefox will start 2.0 rather than the
older 1.5.0.8 version?
I'm trying to understand what the style is for installing software on Linux
when desktops have settings for older stuff. On my work Linux PC I have a
similar problem with Fedora with KDE.
