Replying to a message of TOM WALKER to ROGER NELSON: N>>> RS> Take it from a guy who's nearly been run over, countless times on N>>> my RS> bicycle by older drivers. RN>> Did you have a license plate on your bicycle? A headlamp? Were you RN>> peddlin the wrong way up a one-way street? Etc. (-: TW> He is one of those "I OWN the Road, Make way for ME!!! TW> Bicyclists are the Second MOST Arrogant people on the Road. Blocking TW> Traffic, Blowing Stop Signs etc. :-( And some of them seem to have a death wish. Several years ago driving home in the predawn darkness I noted a line of cars coming toward me on the two lane, shoulderless, unlighted semi-rural road, but they were going pretty slow. When I got close enough I saw some idiot on a bicycle in front of the pack - dark clothes, dark bike and no lights on it or on the rider. The guy's lucky he didn't get killed, and obviously the driver immediately behind him was v-e-r-y observant. TW> The #1 spot belongs to BMW drivers!! :-) :-) Back about 1988 I was in a bit of a hurry to get back home (to Plattsmouth, NE, at the time) from Kearney, NE. I was cruising along I-80 at about 80 mph in my 1968 Chrysler 300 (which cruises beautifully at that speed). Some character in a black BMW went by me like I was nailed to the road. About 15 miles farther along the road I noted that the state patrol had the BMW pulled over and the trooper was writing the guy the speeding ticket I should have got. I prob'ly shoulda stopped to thank him but I managed to resist the impulse. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/201 14/300 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
