Speaking of which...
Quite a few years back a couple destroyers tied up in Toledo,
one US the other Canadian. They were open for tours, and I went
aboard. Did notice, all the conduit and piping were exposed,
nothing covered up. Assumed that was for ease of repair, as, if
you were in a battle and lost some system you didn't want to
wast time taking our paneling to get it back in service.
Recently I've seen more and more factory equipment built to look
nicer, but much harder to maintain. I keep remembering how, when
it's necessary to keep it working the military keeps it
accessible. Industry should do the same.
I do believe the civilian world could learn a lot from the
military.
