WC>My best guess is with his testosterone gone he's not the nervy WC>critter dachshunds were bred to be badger dogs any longer. It may take a bit for that to drain out of his system...as he is very skittish with any noise. Before I married, my family lived in Hialeah, Florida. We had 2 Italian Greyhounds, and they were the same way. The first one, a female named Kim, was charcoal gray, with white on the tips of her paws, the end of her tail, and on her breast. At first, she was a bear to housebreak, but became an excellent watchdog if someone tried to get into our yard. If there was a noise inside the house, she'd raise her head as if to say "huh?"...then she'd go back to sleep. But, if there was a noise outside (i.e. thunder, fireworks, etc.) it spooked her. She eventually jumped the fence, and was hit by a car. :( The second one, a male named Bullet, was brown and white. This dog was a sex maniac..."humping and heisting" everywhere he went. It got so bad that we couldn't keep him in the house. Opposite of Kim, inside noises spooked him. He came with us when we moved to Arkansas in 1977. We eventually gave him to a couple of greyhound owners in Harrison, Arkansas. Just before I got married in 2003, I moved in with my fiancee', to ease the transition. She had a brown dachshund named Fritz. He wasn't skittish, but he had an attitude. Sadly, we had to have him put down last August, due to failing health. Now, we have Slinky...a black and tan with silver dapple dachshund. In talking to his vet, his breeder, and some other people, they think he's going through a phase. We hope it won't last too long. WC>Dachshunds around here routinely attack my Pit with no consequences. That dog is lucky. WC>I never neutered the Pit despite the veteranarian's advice I WC>do so. Where we live...a complex for the disabled...all dogs and cats must be spayed or neutered. WC>Granted this is largely good luck. It sure is.
