Hello All.
For years Jerry Coffin was a powerful force in this echo. He always
had time to help the novice, yet he had the skills to discuss deep C
with the best of em'. It really bothered me when I heard that he
was leaving FidoNet. I knew that the C and C++ Echoes were losing
one of their finest members and that most of us were losing a great
 teacher.
I was recently in touch with Jerry by e-mail and I'm very glad to
report that he is planning to come back, possibly as soon as July.
By Jerry's permission here is what he had to say when I asked him
 "Hey Jerry, What's up?" ...

>Hi Jerry,
>
> I think you probably remember me from the fidonet C and C++ echoes.
I certainly do - it's good to hear from you again.
>I hope you don't mind me writing to you like this.
Not at all.
> You were always a great help to me and I'm interested
>in what you are doing since leaving fidonet.
Mostly working too much... :-|
> Have you been involved in any other public networks such as the Internet
>news groups?
Yes - I've been hanging out in comp.lang.asm.x86,
comp.lang.c.moderated, comp.lang.c++.moderated,
comp.std.c,comp.std.c++, comp.os.ms-windows.programmer.tools.mfc
andcomp.os.ms-windows.programmer.win32
Unfortunately, I've been busy enough that I haven't been able to participate
in them as heavily as I'd like.
>I would like to know if you might consider returning to fidonet? Is it
>something that you don't want to do anymore, or do you have an up link
>problem?
It was a link problem that caused to me to leave to start with. I'vebeen
planning on getting linked back up, but a few other things have gotten in the
way - I had operations done on my right knee in November and January, and
physical therapy has taken up a fair amount of my "spare" time.
>If you just don't want to do it anymore, then there is nothing
>I can say except to tell you that you are missed very much. On the
>other hand, if you would be willing to return, I would like to discuss
>some possible ways to get you "reconnected".
My guess (right now) is that I'll probably be getting interested in getting
reconnected around July or so -- that's when they tell me I should be more or
less done with physical therapy.

It sounds like Jerry has been doing some struggling lately. I think
he would like to hear from anyone here who knew him. If you would
like to get in touch with Jerry but don't know his address, send me
 e-mail at rscudder@usa.net
