I mentioned this to Pat because I wasn't sure when
I would be back on-line here, so if she has already
shared this, please forgive the repeat.
I was trying to think of a way to get through
valentines day without feeling alone and lonely. I
had thought about inviting the various children and
teenagers I know to come over and make valentines,
splitting up the kids to different days so there
wouldn't be an overwhelming number of kids in my
small apt.
I called a local hospital and talked to someone in
the chaplain's office. I asked if I sent or dropped
all the valentines the kids, and I, made to them
could they pass them out to those who needed them.
After talking to her supervisor I was told that would
be great.
So I've begun collecting valentines. I had 2 kids
over on Saturday. They made valentines of all diffent
types including using paint and shaped sponges. I
used finger paint since I didn't want to run the risk
of something getting on something else and not being
washable. Even the youngest, who was 5, kept the
sponges clean and washed them frequently in order to
moisten them. Obviously the older children to better
with the sponges, but his cards were nice. I also
have things such as construction paper, some silver
chrome paper, ribbon, decorative scissors, etc.
Depending on what they are doing I give paper folded
in forths to the younger kids and card stock to the
older ones.
Just thought this might be something that others
could use as a craft project. I did note the
children's ages by their names before I put the cards
in envelopes that I made from wall paper samples. It
is an inexpensive thing to do that will most likely
brighten someone's day.
