RC> JB> I watch that echo. It's been funny. Speaking of new PCs, I
RC> JB> finally broke down and bought the parts to build my new personal
RC> JB> workstation. That's why I haven't been posting as much. Right
RC> JB> now it is copying files over in the background,

RC> JB> My old PC was an AMD Athlon 1800+ running Windows 2000. My new
RC> JB> one is an AMD quad core 9950 with an ASUS NVIDIA motherboard
RC> JB> and 6 - 1.5T drives. I moved up to XP Pro ....

RC>You should have bit the bullet and gone Vista, 64 bit no less!

I thought about XP Pro 64 bit but I am holding off. Some
compatability issues with Vista (and I don't like the interface and some
of the limitations it creates for me). I am really holding out for
Windows 7 to see what it looks like.

RC>How much memory? If you went 32 bit and have 4 gb or more, Winders
RC>wont see more than 3.4gb of it, thats a limitation of 32bit, not just
RC>Winders.

Yep, I am aware of the limitation. I bought for the future.

RC>My Windows Box is Dual Monitor 22" Dells.

RC>Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz
RC>4GB Ram
RC>Vista Home Premium 64 bit
RC>1.25 TB internal Storage across 3 drives, another 1.5 tb on an
RC>external seagate, 500gb on a external iomega (backups) 250gb on a
RC>pocket seagate also used for backing up docs etc.

RC>I actually bought the PC from HOME DEPOT off their web site.

RC>It is a PC made by Mirus, Its got a big blue LED on the front that
RC>resembles the LED from the HAL computer from 2001 A Space Odyssey, so
RC>I call it HAL.

Nice. Mine is black now. No more beige computer. It's an ATX case
that can easily support 6 internal drives and has 3 more external (or
internal) drives above. Lots of room. I put a 750w power supply in it.
Again preparing for the future.

The case came with 2 fans installed, another on the CPU and another on
the pwoer supply. I added another one in front of the drive cage. The
internal temperature is 26 degrees C and the cpu runs at 36 degrees C.
The motherboard has the ability to overclock the CPU but performance is
fine for me. I had to buy a USB to parallel converter since one of my
printers still uses a 25 pin parallel cable.
